Bronze & Copper
This dairy parlour product is made from Bronze. Bronze is an alloy consisting primarily of copper (80%) usually with approximately 12% tin and often with the addition of other metals including aluminium, manganese, nickel, or zinc. Sometimes non-metals, such as phosphorus, or metalloids such as arsenic or silicon are added.
It has excellent wear resistance, strength, and corrosion resistance and so is often used for bearings, gears, springs, and electrical contacts.
Copper alloys are very costly to produce, and as such bronze is commonly recycled. 60% of copper produced since the 1900s is still in use today!
