RECYCLING/DISPOSAL INFORMATION
Polyurethane
Polyurethanes (PUs) are used in many products, such as mattresses, insulation, and construction materials.
Polyurethane is a fairly environmentally friendly material as it contributes very effectively to the energy efficiency of buildings, its durability provides significant savings in resources and, thanks to its lightness, it results in fewer emissions when transported. The manufacturing process that creates polyurethane is also energy-efficient and uses readily available chemical components.
The durability of polyurethane means parts made from this material will last a long time before you need to make replacements. So, fewer broken or ineffectual parts are created.
You can recycle polyurethanes. In fact, it is possible to recycle it multiple times, stripping out the polymers to use again. Anything that can’t be reused can be broken down completely by microorganisms that deconstruct into urethane.
Polyurethane is recycled at authorized recycling centres, so it should not be deposited elsewhere. Please dispose of your used Polyurethane products responsibly by contacting your local council who will be able to advise how best to recycle your used Polyurethane products safely.
